Question

Error Preparing OCR

asked on July 1, 2014

I am using Laserfiche 9.0. I have scanned several files to my computer and they were saved as PDF's. I imported them into laserfiche and had laserfiche convert them into tif. files and OCR. I am getting an error on every page that I imported. I tried exporting them back out into a file on my computer (they were exported as tif. files. Then re-importing them back in... no luck, I still got errors). Anyone have an idea as to why this may have happend and how it can be fixed without rescanning everything back in?

Rachel,

Did you find out what the problem was?  I'm having the same issue and would like to understand why.

Thank you!

Rachel,

What is the exact error message you are getting when trying to OCR the pages generated from the imported PDF?

Can you attach a copy of the PDF file in question to this thread? If not, can you contact your Laserfiche reseller to open a support case and provide a copy of the PDF that way?

Regards

Error Preparing Page for OCR [412]

I know it can OCR the work orders i have scanned in because the newest ones i have imported i imported as tif. files from the start and everything was fine. Its just the several that i scanned awhile back at one time as pdf's.

Without seeing the actual PDFs in question, I can't say for sure, but I suspect that the issue was related to how the images were generated from those PDFs. Perhaps the resulting image was using a resolution that is below the minimum threshold for the OCR engine.

If you still have the original PDFs in question, we can test to know for sure. Also, there have been some fixes to the page generation process in the later versions of Laserfiche so perhaps upgrading to Laserfiche 9.1.1 may have addressed the issue as well.

Here is a copy of the pdf. If it goes straight into Laserfiche as a TIFF it is fine, if it goes in as a PDF and then converted and OCR'ed it gives me "Error preparing page for OCR [412]"

I have tried extracting it then reimporting it as a tiff... nothing is working.

I tested the PDF in Laserfiche 8.3.2, 9.0.3, and 9.1.1. In each instance, I was able to import the PDF and have it generate pages and searchable text without issue. The resulting image was a 144x144 dpi document with dimensions 3408x4400 and the OCR process ran successfully.

What version of Laserfiche are you currently using and getting the error with? From the Client, you can get the full version by going into Help > About.

Also, if you contact your Laserfiche Reseller, they can open a support case so the matter can be looked into further.

These are the Client settings I have:

And this is what the document looks like in the Client document viewer after I import the PDF

This was using the 9.0.1.610 Client as well.

Changed all of my settings to match yours and it still didn't work. I will have to have someone troubleshoot it. Thanks for your help.

No problem. Sorry we couldn't figure it out here. One last thing I would suggest though is to try repairing the Client or even uninstalling and reinstalling it. Then if that doesn't work, you can contact your Laserfiche reseller about opening a support case.
