Hi Allan,

Yes, Laserfiche requires SMB protocol support for networked volume storage, which is supported quite widely:

  • Windows & DOS shares (obviously)
  • SaMBa on LINUX & UNIX
  • CIFS on LINUX & UNIX (and others?)
  • Any other "Windows compatible" storage systems (NAS/SAN, EMC, etc.)

This is spot on. Laserfiche can use for storage anything that can be referenced by a UNC path, including SMB shares.

More information about where volume information is stored can be found in the Laserfiche Administration Guide help files.

Hi there,

I will try be more specific. What i need is to share one or more folders of my laserfiche repository by SMB protocol (port 445). Is that possible ?

The Laserfiche server can't make its contents available over SMB, just WebDAV.  It sounds like you're trying to do some kind of integration.  If you give some background we might be able to offer some alternatives.

We need to share some folders of our repository to some people. These people need to have quick access to the files in this folders and not depend on laserfiche client. The major problem is, in some occasions these people need to drag the file out of the laserfiche client to use with other programs. Example drag the file out of the laserfiche client to attach in webmail.

Web Folders are the closest thing I can think of.  Make sure you read up on them because there are limitations to when they can be used (related to authentication and supported client OSes).
