Question

Using Storsimple and Microsoft Azure with Laserfiche Live Volumes

asked on June 24, 2014

We have a very important client of ours looking to use a product called StorSimple and Microsoft Azure for storage of live Laserfiche Volumes and backup.

They want to know if there is any problems or technical issues with using this technology with Laserfiche.

The StorSimple devices are model 5520's software version 2.1.1 (build 2.1.1.341). They are using Microsoft Azure for cloud storage.

Please confirm if this has any drawbacks with their system.

Thanks,

On the surface there should be no issues with this. Whatever storage site you use as storage for your volume location just needs to act like a normal windows drive or share.

I have found it easier to manage if you mount that volume as a drive letter (so you can move it on the back end keeping the same letter apparent to laserfiche) but that's just personal preference.

One note: Make sure you are not moving the entire repository storage there. You want to keep the search index files on a local drive. If you have a very high volume of traffic it may be best to put very active volumes (such as recent files under a year old) on fast storage locations (such as local or an optimized NAS), then place the older files on "slower" storage since they will not be accessed as often/changed as much.
