How to Configure 32-bit Data Source on 64-bit Server?

asked on June 24, 2014

I have installed 32-bit drivers for a Progress data source. When I go to add this data source using the Workflow Administration Console 9.1 it does not list my ODBC data source. I'm going to guess that it does not take into consideration the 32-bit ODBC and only looks at the 64-bit ODBC. How would I go about configuring a data source in the Workflow Admin for 32-bit?

64-bit Workflow cannot use 32-bit ODBC drivers. This is a Windows limitation.

You can uninstall Workflow and reinstall it as its 32-bit version. However, then you would be limited in terms of resources to what 32-bit applications can use on a 64-bit operating system. If you have other ODBC data sources already set up, those will stop working.

The other option is to install a 32-bit Workflow on a separate machine and have it handle 32-bit ODBC data sources and their workflows.

If you have a 64 bit WF installation, you need to use 64 bit data sources.
See: https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1012915 and the WF Admin Guide.

The workaround in your case would be to install 32 bit WF.

Hi Blake,

There are separate ODBC Admin tools. In Metro, just type "odbc data" and the you'll see a 64bit and 32bt option. Otherwise, the admin tools can be run directly:

32bit - c:\windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

64bit - c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe

Ben, I know this is an old post but even if we configure a 32 bit ODBC outside of workflow, we cannot add it in the Workflow Data Source Administrator if the Workflow is 64bit.
