Question

Compress Laserfiche Repository Size

asked on June 23, 2014 Show version history

Hello everyone,

One of our customers has posted this question;

"We are currently setting up a second office for them in NYC which will have DFS replication between the two sites. In preparation for this we noticed that their current data repository for LF is almost 400GB and wanted to know if you have a tool or procedure to reduce or archive the database to reduce the overall file size. Please let me know how best to proceed.

Please advise.

Thanks,"

It's possible to use normal Windows backups or even just a straight across file transfer to pre-stage DFS Replication. You can create a compressed backup, copy that across (sometimes it's faster to throw it on a portable drive and carry or ship it) and restore it to it's final location. Then you can get DFS to start replicating using the restored files as a starting point. From then on it will use differential compression to only send changed blocks.

There's plenty of material on TechNet on how to pre-stage things with DFS.
