Feature Request: Linked documents colored

asked on June 19, 2014

This request is for linked documents. How documents with specific templates can have colored icons is it possible to have documents within the same linked group have the same color? This would be useful for documents that are grouped but have different templates have the same color so they can be identified.

I believe the document viewer already show a number with the links tab to indicate that this document is linked to other documents. Is there a reason this isn't sufficient?

Hi Cristobal,

That's an interesting request!  As a heads up, our developers receive an awful lot of feature requests, and have to prioritize them based on how useful the feature is, how many people would benefit from it, how long it would take to implement, etc.  The more information you can provide about your request, the better.  Specifically, it would be great if you could tell us a bit more about the specific business process you see this helping with, why the feature would be helpful, and why it's difficult to work without it.  It seems like using the existing document relationship labels would would accomplish pretty much the same thing, so the more information you can provide, the better.  Thanks!

Getting back with the client they were a bit more specific. The request that they are making is that instead of the icons is the ribbon/tab in the metadata pane. This would be a different color if the document is linked. This would help their company if they open a document that is linked and the Links ribbon/tab is colored they can recognize right away that there are other documents associated with the specific case documents they are working on. This would help the organization recognize if the opened document has any previous associated documents. This would also prevent missing any documents if they would have to pull any linked documents since the tab is colored and would be recognized immediately.

This is true. Though for some reason it initially does not have the number of linked documents shown until I click on the tab. Is this normal or am I missing a setting? Also, has this always been the case or when was this released.

That was added in, I believe, 9.0 (or else a later 8.3 release). If you're not seeing a number until you click on the tab, you probably just need to install a newer version of Laserfiche. I seem to recall an issue with the number not showing up properly, a few releases back. Let us know if that doesn't fix things!

I do have the latest version of Laserfiche installed version 9.1.1 service pack 1. I don't know exactly what was wrong though it is showing up now. The organization that is requesting this was on version 8.3.1 and the links section was not displaying a number. I informed them about this and they were satisfied that it displays the number of linked documents. They will be looking into upgrading. Thanks for the help!
