Laserfiche Web Access Exporting to PDF Changes Word Doc Formatting

asked on June 17, 2014

When we have people export word document to PDF out of laserfiche web access, the conversion to PDF changes the format of the original document.  Is there a setting that I can change to stop the format change?

Hi Lisa,

I've removed the files from your post.

In regards to the issue, when exporting the Word document as a PDF, it's not actually converting the Word document directly to a PDF. Instead, what it's doing is taking the generated text from the Word document (in the Client, right click on the Word document and select Open > Pages and view the text pane in the Client document viewer) and generating a PDF from that text.

To achieve what you are requesting, you would need to Snapshot the Word document such that it creates a TIFF image document that looks like the original Word document. Then you can export that as a PDF and it should result in a PDF that looks like the original Word document.

The user highlights all documents with in the folder, and then click Export-->PDF, when there is a word document in the group of documents, the converted PDF file has changed the formatting of the document.

Please keep these documents confidential as they are active Police cases.

Thanks so much for looking at this.

Hi Lisa,

So to clarify, these are Word documents that had pages generated from them, i.e. they were Snapshotted, and exporting those images as a PDF is altering the format such that the PDF doesn't look like the Word document?

Can you attach a sample Word document to this thread or perhaps contact your reseller to open a support case?

Also, to answer your question, these word documents were not snapshotted, they were saved into Laserfiche using the Office plugin.

Thanks again!
