Rio - What happens if you disable AD Sync, does it play more roles than the documentation suggests?

asked on June 16, 2014

I would expect that with the sync disabled you simply would not get updates to your named user allocation assignments with no other adverse side effects.

Based on the documentation AD Sync updates only has the role of updating named user allocation within License Manager. Something that could be done manually.

We had a situation where users could not log in until the sync was run even though they were already assigned a license from the last sync.

Hi Chad,

All the AD sync does is assign licenses to users, so the situation you're describing is a little unexpected.  The caveat I will mention is that the sync is an "all or nothing" deal.  Either all users are assigned licenses via sync, or no users.  You can't use AD sync and then manually add some other users.  I wonder if that somehow figured into your experience?

If that's definitely not what happened, and this issue pops up again in the future, I'd recommend talking with tech support to find out what's going on.
