Question

Zone OCR missing from QF9 tasks pane

asked on June 15, 2014

We recently upgraded from Avante to Rio.  Running current 9.1 version with QF 9 installed with QF agent.  All add-ons installed.  QF licenced in LM and shows we are licenced for Zone OCR with all the other add-ons.

Yet, in a quickfields session, Zone OCR does not show up on any section (Pre-Config, First/Last recognition, etc).  All the others we purchased show up like Omnipage OCR, Barcode, OMR, AutoOMR.

I have uninstalled, QF and reinstalled.  Removed and readded QF license in LM and it is licensed for the local machine that QF is installed on.  Why isn't Zone OCR available?  From what I can tell it is not a separate download among laserfiche's confusing array of mismatched versioning files.  What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

The last version of the Client to require a license was 8.1. That's why you're not seeing newer versions in the list.

With the Rio License Manager, all product licenses need to be generated from the License Manager. The support site should only list one activation key for your Rio system. When you activate this key in the License Manager, the License Manager gets a list of all products you're licensed for. From then on, you can generate licenses for each product through LM.

Kevin,

The licensing database in LM shows that Quick Fields has Zone OCR feature, right? What about the Quick Fields license, you can open the license file with Firefox and have a check.

Please unregister the Quick Fields application instance and then re-register one from LM. Save the license file and check the features in the file. If there is still no 'Zone OCR' feature, please contact your Laserfiche reseller to open a support case.

Regards

Hello Xiaoxiao.  Yes I checked LM and it shows ZoneOCR listed under Quickfields.  I also checked the lf.licx file (which is saved in the Server folder) and it has ZoneOCR listed as a feature.  I also removed QF from LM and re-added it.  Still, running QF doesn't show ZoneOCR in the panel of tools.

Should the lf.licx file be saved in a place other than the Laserfiche server folder?  I also have a lfdef.licx file there as well.

Thanks,

Kevin

The Quick Fields license doesn't go under the Laserfiche Server folder. Generate the QF license from the License Manager, then go to Quick Fields and, from the Help menu, choose Add Features. Then point to the .licx file you made. Quick Fields will take care of putting the license in the proper folder.

Edit: If you do currently have a QF license in the LFServer's install folder, you want to replace it with a proper LFServer license. The Server loads the license when it starts up and it will stop working if it doesn't find a server license in its install folder.

Thank you Miruna.  I figured out the "add features" thing after re-licensing and now ZoneOCR shows up.  Thank you.

So to be clear, the LFServer license that goes in the Server folder should be generated from LM by highlighting the Laserfiche server instance and click "Generate License?"  Or should that be downloaded from my support section on this site?

Everything is working, but LM lists Client as 8.1 even though I fully installed 9.1.1.  There may be old stuff from previous versions mucking things up.  At least QF is reporting all features.

Perfect.  Thank you very much.  All the various versions made me wonder if LM wasn't reading things correctly.  I wish LF would advance version numbers to be in sync.  For example, LM is showing 8.3.1, while server is 9.1, QF is 9.0, and others are different as well.

I suppose if all one does is administer LF, they would know that by heart.  But for new RIO users it seems all over the place.

Thanks for the help and clarification!

This KB article lists current versions for all LF products.
