Import Agent OCR Tiff Image

asked on June 13, 2014

I have a customer who is scanning a tiff image via an MFP into a network folder where Import Agent is picking the file up.  Import Agent is set to OCR the image and place into the Repository.  This process is working great, however the 4th page of the document is not OCR'd.  By manually OCR'ing the document, the text is generated - Is there a difference between the Import Agent OCR engine and the LF App. OCR Engine?  If so, how do I get them to be the same?

I've attached the 4th page the document for reference.

And the OCR settings can be configured in Import Agent Configuration Utility > Profile in the menu bar > Options > General tab.

Shouldn't make a difference, but a few things to try.

Import Agent 9 just came out, so you could try the new version.

Is the MFP scanning in PDF, single page TIFF or multi page TIFF? Try a different setting and see what happens - IA9 allows PDF -> TIFF conversion now.

The resolution of the image is 96*96 dpi, which is somehow slow to OCR. We recommend a resolution of 300 dpi when scanning, which thus can be identified correctly during OCR process.

I think the optimization priority for OCR in LF client is set to Accuracy. This helps perform OCR on images that have low accuracy.

Note that OCR image enhancements are only available as of Import Agent 9. Probably the difference you are seeing is that the enhancements are at work through the Client but not, previously, in Import Agent.
