Question

Question

White paper on communications.

asked on June 11, 2014

Is there a document that documents what the communication process is when pulling up a document or searching.  I have searched the support site but didn't find anything.  I am looking for something that documents the process.

For example Client communicates over port 80 to the server where it then communicates via tcp over port 139 to the windows repository store to pull the document back where its then sent to client.

Does this exist?

This might be what you're looking for? Or are you looking for something more in-depth?

Thanks but that's not really what I had in mind.  The point to this is I have been having intermittently slow issues loading files and I am attempting to track down the problem.  I want to know when I click to open a file what exactly happens.  Also if I am searching a template field and if I am searching full-text what happens and in what order.

To maybe help track down the issue.

Exactly what happens when you perform any given action is hard to predict because it depends on a huge number of variables. You might want to look at the Admin Guide section on Performance Monitoring. You can use Windows PerfMon and server logging to try to track down performance problems. If you are seeing issues with search specifically, you might also want to take a look at the Whitepaper on Improving Laserfiche Search Performance.
