Question

Hosted Laserfiche Server

asked on June 10, 2014

We have a customer that has a web-server hosted off-site (not on a domain). Is it possible to connect workflow designer from inside their domain to this web-server outside of their domain using the ip address? I have connected the full client using this IP but it appears Workflow connects to the server in a different manner than the client.

I found an older KB article here: https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1012104

but it's not 100% definitive. Has anyone tried this before?

The KB article still applies to the current version of Workflow. The Workflow Designer will not be able to connect to a Workflow Server that's on a separate server and not part of the domain.

Workflow security is based on Windows Authentication, so there is no way around this restriction for now. The workaround for Avante and Rio customers is to install a full copy of Workflow on a workstation and design their workflows there. Then export them and import them into the production server. Otherwise the Workflow Designer needs to be on the same machine as the Workflow Server.

Wouldn't we need an extra license for that workaround? They are on Avante

You can install as many Workflow servers as you want with Avante and Rio.

That should work for us then as a workaround, is there a feature request for this functionality in a future release yet?

Yes, this feature request has been logged in our system.

It has been 8 years (ish). Any updates on this requirement? Thanks

We currently have no plans to change the authentication model for Workflow.
