Error launching Business Process

asked on June 6, 2014

We have had a couple of users that have had the following error when trying to Launch a Business Process from the Laserfiche Client:

For most of the Users, Uninstalling the client, rebooting pc and then installing it again, fixed the error. But now I have a user who has had his PC Formatted and reloaded with Windows 7 and even after a fresh install, the error is still present.

I have checked UAC settings and tried the uninstall and re-install 7 times now. Also ran repairs on .Net in between but the error persists.

How can I resolve this?

Just an update for anyone having the same issue as listed above:

We recently had some more users that had the exact same errors being reproduced. In line with Brian's post above, the problem seems to have stemmed from a change in Security on the Machine.Config files for Framework v2.0 and v4.0 as well as Frameworkx64 v2.0 and v4.0.

To resolve the error I ended specifically giving the "logged in" user, "Full control" under the security settings for these files. After doing this on all 4 of the files, they where able to start business processes without any error being raised.

That error indicates a problem with a .Net configuration file; see this Stack Overflow question.  Since the problem is confined to a single machine it would seem that it's referring to a config file on that machine.  You might start with LF.exe.config (comparing it to a working installation) and moving on to the machine.config file.  A tool like Process Monitor might help you determine what file was accessed just prior to the exception.

Thank you Brian. I'll have a look at this.

Does Outlook exist on the problem machine? Does the template that Outlook uses exist there as well.  Based on your screenshot it looks like Outlook is trying to load the template but is unable to.

Hi Raymond. Outlook does exist yes but I think the name of the entry is misleading you. The document was snapsot into Laserfiche. Once it is in Laserfiche the user then needs to start a business process on the document. And thatis giving the error. The document is not saved via the oulook plugin nor is any defaults configured.

I would check that everything is setup correctly with the Workflow Web Service. I'd next republish the workflow and check its client starting rule and republish that. If the problem persists, open a support case.

The problem is only from a single pc. If the same user logs into a different pc or any of the 223 other users access the same workflow or any of the other 65 workflows, it is fine. The problem is local to the one pc for the moment. The pc has been formatted and reloaded and a fresh install of the laserfiche client, and the problem persists. If the problem was with the config of the web service or the workflow, it would have effected all users.

IT ended up Reloading his Operating System and after that and a fresh Laserfiche Install the problem seems to have been resolved.
