Question

Scanning Checks - what scanner do you use with Laserfiche?

asked on June 2, 2014

We scan small volumes of checks into Laserfiche. For the last few years we have used a Canon DR-4010C document scanner and it has worked flawlessly. Recently, the scanner started picking up more than one check at a time and incorrectly scanning the checks. We tried cleaning the rollers and replaced them, but the issue still occurs regularly.

Does anyone have any tricks for scanning smaller items, like checks, with a document scanner?

Is anyone using a check scanner that works with Laserfiche?

Thanks in advance.

Here are the suggestions from the manual from the 4010C.

Also, what is your Page Separation mode set to?

It just may be that the Canon's mechanics aren't up to the precision needed for accurate feeding any more. Could you swap the failing unit with another from somebody who doesn't use theirs as heavily? If the other person doesn't do so many small pages it may work fine for them.

We've had very good success with the Fujitsu fi series. Well, except for the new 7160's. The new software that comes with them is terrible. However, the hardware has been very good at scanning anything we put through it. It's worked on everything from business cards on up.

I would say it is the specific scanner as well.  I believe the 4010 has been replaced with upgraded models.  All of our clients use Canon scanners with little to no issues (other than standard maintenance).

If you want to keep using the Canon scanner then replace the Separation Pad.

We have had success scanning small items such as checks with a small Fujitsu desktop.

The switch on the side that sets the feed mode was bumped and set to single sheet mode. I moved it down and multi-sheet mode and it worked.

Bummer we already bought rollers for it.

That would be the Page Separation setting.
