Is It Possible To Capture Skype Content With Laserfiche Using SDK

asked on June 2, 2014

Per the SEC, my organization has a requirement to capture all electronic communication, including instant messaging.  The only instant messaging tool we use is Smarsh and that is currently being archived by Smarish with an IM Auditor tool provided by Actiaince.  In a couple of month Actiance will no longer capture Skype content and I didn't know if I'd be able to use the SDK in Laserfiche to capture Skype content.

In an Empower 2010 presentation Jonathan Powers discussed Laserfiche and Skype integration, but the presentation that is online does not have any details on it.

Any information that someone can provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

There is a Skype SDK, but I've never used it. You'll probably need to use it to extract the messages, and then the Laserfiche SDK to import them.

I did a quick search, and there are existing Skype applications that save chat history and call logs. Once saved, you could use Import Agent to automatically import those logs into Laserfiche. If you still wanted to create a fully integrated system with the SDK, there is nothing stopping you from doing so on the Laserfiche end.

Quick update:  We have choosen to go with Presensoft and they archive Skype chat at the policy level.  So far we have been really pleased with the service.  You can find out more about them here.
