Question

Attach Volumes

asked on May 21, 2014

I have Laserfiche Site A and Laserfiche Site B, two separate entities. Site A's volumes have not been exported, is it possible to move/copy Site A's volumes to Site B and view the images/metadata without having properly exported Site A's volumes?

Are site A and B totally different Laserfiche Servers and repositories?

If they are, you need to export the volume in order to get the folders and the metadata.  When you import a volume into a repository, it is going to create the folder structure (which will add the pointers to SQL) and import the metadata.

If you created a new blank volume at Site B and then simply copy the images from Site A to that empty volume they will not be in Laserfiche as SQL has no references to those images.

Note that if you export a volume none of the access rights or security come with it.

Without exporting the volume, there is no way to import the volume into another repository.

Was there a resolution to this issue? I have a client who is experiencing the same thing.

I'm not sure what the issue your client is experiencing is as the original post was a question not a bug report. As Chris explained above, the volumes are not just files on disk, there is a database component to them. Copying the files only is not enough to move a volume between repositories.
