So just upgraded a customer's LF Server and Workflow this morning from 9.0 to 9.1.1, and was surprised to find that we had to renew the license file. Is this normal? I thought if you were simply upgrading you wouldn't have do anything to the license file??
Question
Question
Upgrade from 9.0 to 9.1.1 require new license file (RIO)??
Answer
The server needs a license with the corresponding version. If your master license's version only goes up to 9.0, then you need to renew it to get a new one that allows generating server licenses with version 9.1.

I don't know for sure but when you generate a license file in RIO you need to choose the version manually. There is a drop down for 9.0,8.3, etc. Since you have to pick what version when you generate a license I would assume that upgrade from 9.0 to 9.1 will require a new one. Again, just guessing here.
I suspect this is normal. We do our upgrades via direct connection to the license server and must update the application license in license manager before being able to upgrade versions. This isn't consuming extra licenses, merely a refresh to allow an update beyond a 9.0 release.
This is completely normal. In fact, the installation package itself should have a button to request the License Manager to update when you connect to it to activate during the installation. That way you don't have to do the process in two different places, you can do it all in the Server installation package (or whatever product you are installing and activating against the License Manager).
