Windows Firewall Preventing LM from adding Named Devices

asked on May 15, 2014

We worked with a client recently and they were getting the error message "Computer not Found" when trying to add a named device in the license manager.  After troubleshooting the client was able to use netstat to see what port was trying to be used.  He discovered that it was trying to communicate across port 1027.  Once he made an exception for that port on the client PC, LM was able to find and add that PC as a Named Device.  Has anyone ever seen this before and why is Port 1027 not mentioned anywhere on the LF Support site talking about Adding Named Devices?

Thanks

The Laserfiche License Manager uses WMI to connect to remote computers, which uses DCOM under the hood. DCOM uses a random port for connections. See Microsoft documentation on allowing DCOM connections through firewalls for WMI.
