Notification Port 5055

I see mention of port 5055 in relation to notifications and read "if you have enabled notifications..." but don't see any place where this can be enabled or disabled, or if the port can be changed?

 

What exactly do these notifications entail and what are the implications of them being disabled (or blocked by a firewall)?

Server communications ports
"The Listening port is the port used by most Laserfiche 8 and 9 client applications, including the Laserfiche Client. The Notification port is used by applications that take advantage of the Laserfiche notifications system, including Workflow. The LFAPI port is used by certain legacy clients, including most Laserfiche 6 applications."
