Question

Enhancement or input if alternative solution exists

asked on May 9, 2014

Support, we have several folders that once documents are processed are protected from end users modifying or deleting. They are read-only historical documents with the exception that we allow them to add annotations. Currently, there is no way to set security to allow staff “Add Annotation” only permission. You can either set security to “See Annotations” or “Annotate”. “Annotate allows users to not only add new annotations/stamps/etc but also allows them to “Change or Delete”  annotations/stamps/etc. We do not want to give them the ability to “Delete” annotations.

We are requesting that Laserfiche modify security permissions to “See Annotations”, “Write Annotations” and “Delete Annotations”

There are two existing options that may provide the functionality you need:

  • If an annotation is marked as protected, it can only be modified or deleted by the annotation creator or the document owner.
  • If you are worried about changes being made to these historical documents, you may wish to enable version control for these documents. If annotations are deleted, this will be noted when comparing versions, and you can then revert the changes.

We do not currently have plans to update the access rights setup, as security changes can have far-reaching consequences.
