Folders and shortcuts not deleting properly after upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3 to 9.0.1

asked on April 30, 2014

Good Morning,

Issue: Empty Folders and Files shortcuts that move / delete fine in v 8.2.1.724 are not working properly after upgrade attempt to 8.3 and 9.0.1

Comments: Have worked with Laserfiche PreSales and  Support on various issues that occurred after the initial upgrade attempt. The client and I together fixed the FabTrol and MAS90 Query issues, script issues etc. Have rebuilt the workflow process many, many, times, trying different combinations of design, including using the search repository, and find entries, etc., but keep having issues with either getting the shortcut to move, or getting the folder to delete when empty. When one works, the other fails etc.

One idea from support, which I tried was to delete the objects and re-create them. Presales indicated that it may be an error on what entry pointer was being referenced. Neither idea was a solution.

After looking at a lot of posts in LF Answers I see there were / are a experienced and known issues with workflows and changes from the 8.2.x to 9.x environment. The common solution to all of them seems to be "update to 9.1.x".

I'm also attaching images of the common workflow segments having issues. and the segments of the workflow code from the Invoicing.

The only difference is that the Purchase Order Department uses folder shortcuts to the Entries parent folder and the Invoicing Department  uses document shortcuts to the Entries

My question and request for help is this:

Is there something in the workflow that I am missing? If not, what is the likelihood the client's issue will be resolved if upgraded to 9.1.x? They do not want to have the production environment down for more than a day because of the number of employees and activity. I also don't want to suggest the upgrade and have it fail as well.

Regards,

Brian

Note: There have been discussions and tickets opened with Presales and with Support. At present the client is back on 8.2.x and we have been using a VM for testing.

Note: At 8.2 everything is perfect.

Hi Brian,

We've spoken with Presales and they indicated that they have worked with you previously and have seemed to address any Workflow configuration related issues. As for the remaining issue that may be a potential bug, I see that you had opened a support case a few months back, but it was closed out due to a week of inactivity.

Since this still appears to be an issue, please update the support case with the information we had last requested and we will gladly reopen it and continue troubleshooting the matter.

One trick I've used with misbehaving workflows (workflows not working the way you think they should or having some strange error in them) is to export the workflow and reimport it.

The biggest thing is to do what it sounds like you are doing and that is to get a test server up and running so you can test any changes before doing it with the live server.

I've found 9.1.1 will be fairly stable but I don't know if it'll solve your issue. It couldn't hurt to test that. The other thing I would suggest is to put "Track tokens" on every path so you can trace what is going on during the workflow. You want to be able to see what your search results are coming back with so you can figure out if your conditionals are actually working on the correct data. (don't forget to take them out before production though!!!)

I believe there were some slight changes in search syntaxes between 8.2 and 8.3. I don't think any existing syntaxes changed between 8.3 and 9.1, there were just more possible types of searches added. But stretching my memory a bit I think I remember a few issues relating to searches working slightly different between 8.2 and 8.3
