Migration from V7 to V9 - what were your challenges?

posted on April 28, 2014

We've been working on the plan for moving from V7 to V9 for a long while now.  (Too long, some would say... :) )

We are nearing the point where we will be migrating our first repository into Production on version 9.

I'm sure we aren't the first to attempt this, so I thought I'd ask the community:

What were your challenges?  What problems did you encounter? What would you do differently?

Thanks in advance!

We went from 8.3 to 9 just over a year ago (now running 9.1); make sure you're not running it on any XP machines (likely you're not at this point), as the two don't play nice together.

Thanks travis!

We still have some XP around, unfortunately.  Lots of my users are going to be using Weblink/Webaccess, so I don't have to worry about them, but some will need the client.

Do you know what problems you had with XP?

Travis - are you referring to client-side issues with XP? The Server side components have been limiting compatibility with XP, but client-side components such as the desktop Client and Quick Fields should still work with them just fine.

Yes, sorry I should have clarified, or at least updated my post.  We did have some issues on the server side - partly because we weren't quite where we needed to be in terms of specs.  Once we brought everything up to where it needed to be, those issues pretty much cleared up (funny how that works)frown

We are still working out some kinks, but it doesn't seem anything related to Laserfiche itself, but rather our own network environment.  We've engaged a network study and have been troubleshooting a lot of "environmental"-type issues the past few months.  For Laserfiche & several other systems, we found some issues (templates freezing, failure to load images, etc.) improved for users by moving to a Win7 environment on the client side; but, ultimately we determined that these problems were more related to the scanners & drivers not working as well with XP, and not Laserfiche itself.
