Question

Is there a way to see if a document has been viewed on Weblink?

asked on April 28, 2014

I have a client that says, on an earlier version of Weblink (6 or 7), they had a column that would display whether or not a document had been viewed.  They would like to be able to see this information again, because they want to delete  unread reports at the end of the day.

Is there a solution for this in Weblink?  Or possibly an advanced search in Laserfiche to reference an Audit Trail log?

They also said that they had an integration with iFrame at the time, which may be where this column originated.  I'm not familiar with the earlier versions of Weblink, so I couldn't be sure.

That doesn't sound like any built-in functionality, so it would have been an integration of some sort.  Is there anyone there who knows about the integration?  If it was with WebLink 7 it should be easy to get it working with WebLink 8.

Audit Trail can record what entries users view.  The audit database isn't directly accessible from a Laserfiche search, though you could put together an integration that updates entry metadata based on the audit database.  Another data source is the IIS logs.  A URL like http://webdemo.laserfiche.com/weblink8/0/doc/531643/Page1.aspx means that the user looked at document id 531643.

If this is a public site, you'll probably want to make sure you aren't counting web crawlers.  That information won't be in the audit logs, just in the IIS logs.
