Question

Upgraded to 9.1 - User can press scan button, nothing happens.

asked on April 23, 2014

Like title says, we upgraded to version 9.1 and now I have a single user who can click the scan button, but nothing happens. If you change to admin or another user, works great. The account she is using also works at other workstations without issue.

We also tried uninstalling and repairing Laserfiche, no change. Switching to another user profile works fine too. Re-created user profile - no change.

Has anyone else ever encountered this? If so, is there a solution?

One thing to be aware of is that the OCR module is it's own installation as of 9.1. It's supposed to get installed automatically as part of the Client/Scanning installation, but you may want to check if it's actually installed and/or try repairing it manually (since it is a separate package, it won't get repaired along with the rest of the Client installation). It should have it's own item in Programs and Features ('Laserfiche OCR...') that can be repaired and it also has it's own Setup.exe in the installation package. You can access that either directly under the en\OCR directory or in the 'Optional Components...' section of the Autorun.

Is the the Scan button in the Client (to launch LFScanning) or the Scan button in LF Scanning?

The scan button within LF Scanning. Sorry, should have clarified.

She can get into LF Scanning, but when she hit's scan - nothing happens.

We've encountered this many times (having nothing to do with 9.1) when using Kofax drivers. To troubleshoot, try to switch your scan source to something else and see if scanning comes back to life. In our case, Kofax can be very finicky.

We're using Fuji TWAIN drivers.

Tried switching scan source and re configuring a few times, still no change.

Press Ctrl+Shift+E to open the application errors pane. Are there any errors listed?

Attached is the screen when I try and Scan.

Message says "Failed to create the "BPOCRClient.BPProcessEx' process"

Can you check Laserfiche Scanning's Help > About menu and let us know the exact version that's being used? I'm curious to see if you may still be using Laserfiche Scanning 9.1.0

Here's the message that comes up when I hit Modify Program.

Matches the "About" screen, as well.

It may also be worth noting, that Windows Fax and Scan works fine.

Can you try uninstalling the 9.1.0 Client suite, reboot the PC, and then reinstall? See if that address the matter.

As a side note, I'd recommend upgrading to Laserfiche 9.1.1 when you get a chance instead of staying on 9.1.0. This is for the Server, Client, etc.

Also, maybe try and delete the OCR process and then try it.  If it works, re-add the OCR process.

I have been battling the same exact issues with my last two client upgrades.  We finally got scanning to work in scan connect as long as no Laserfiche image enhancements were turned on.  Specifically OCR and rotate.  Same result using twain and universal capture.  Support recommended upgrading to newest 9.1.1 and we are doing that tonight.  I will update post after we try again tomorrow.

@Chris How do I delete the individual OCR Process, then reinstall if needed?

@Justin - hmmmm. It's installed just as Laserfiche Client. How do I get my hands on the package?

You can access that either directly under the en\OCR directory or in the 'Optional Components...' section of the Autorun.

In the installation media.

Hey Justin, that was the solution!

Whomever created the installer share didn't bother copying the full CD, so it was missing the autorun.exe file.

Ran that OCR Installer, and boom it works!

Thanks for your help!
