Question

Question

form alignment in quick fields.

asked on April 17, 2014

I have a two page document, a government claim for that is printed on preprinted documents where the form itself is a red background.

The question I have is this: Does a form alignment done on page 1 carry through to page 2?

The issue is that there used to be a small amount of black graphics and text at the top of each form with the rest of the form being all red. This text/graphics has been replaced by a small square 1/3 inch QR code in the new version of the form and it doesn't do a good job of form alignment just using the QR code on a blank page.

However when we scan these jobs we scan them in with a dual stream scanner. So it's saved once as B&W so that the OMR works well and once with the red dropped so the Zone OCR works well.

If I use the form to do form alignment on page 1 it will naturally line up perfectly for page two - but I don't know if Quick Fields carries that over. Does it?

Form Alignment works off the text and lines on the master form, so a blank page with a barcode is not going to be very helpful. If page 2 is not the same form as page one, then Form Alignment is not going to work.

Depending on what the document looks like, perhaps it would work to just put a local deskew on the barcode zone?

Yes, that might be more efficient.

How do local processes work when they are applied to something like the barcode zone or an OCR zone? Do they still attempt to work on the whole page, or do they only work within the confines of the zone?

Quick Fields processes don't span multiple pages unless you specify that they should. Most, if not all, processes have a Page Range section in their configuration. You might experiment with that option to see if it helps. I think the only time they don't have Page Range available is when they are placed in the Pre-Classification Processing node.
