Question

maximum path length

asked on April 17, 2014

Hi,

As per the defined limits in Laserfiche, we should have

Entry name 255
Entry full path 1023 includes path delimiters

However, when using long filenames, e.g. in a folder having a name 255 characters long or in a nested folder whose full path length exceeds 255 characters, I get the following error when browsing:

Please advise.

If you are still using Laserfiche 9.1.0, then please upgrade to 9.1.1 (Server, Client, etc.). There was an issue where you will get the error "an unnamed file contains an incorrect path." if the full path length was greater than 260 characters. This issue only occurred in 9.1.0 and is fixed in 9.1.1.

You may be hitting those limits you mentioned. Please remember that folders are also considered Entries. also remember if your filename contains an extension, thats already 4-5 characters less than 255 for the name of the document

Just to clarify -

I get the error message on the first level folder (just under the repository) if the folder name's length is 255. If I understand correctly, I should get at least 3 folder levels before hitting the maximum Entry full path of 1023.

I'm on LF Avante 9.1 and was testing the file name limit for discussion with a client. Strangely, once I click OK, I get the message a second time and I'm still able to proceed and create another folder or file. When accessing the next folder, I get the error again and can similarly proceed.

Is this a known issue?

Thanks for advising.
