Question

I cant figure out how to append values to a token.

asked on April 16, 2014

Hi there, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  I'm trying to modify the value of a token by appending values, but I'm not seeing the option to append values, only to specify a new value.  What I want to do is, create a table containing the values retrieved from the search results in a token that can be placed in the body of an email.  A clip of my workflow design is attached.

I think I figured out that part of it.  I did not allow the original token to have multiple values.  We'll see if the rest of the workflow works now. wink

I don't know if you want multiple values. If you are using the Modify token option which it looks like you are then just make sure the new value contains the original value. For example:

New value: %(List of Outstanding Items) Item4, Item5, Item6

Chad's got it spot on. The new value for your token should look something like:

%(ListOfOutstandingItems)<tr><td>%(RetrieveFieldValuesFromSearch_Client Name_1)...

This gets the value of your "List Of Outstanding Items" token, appends the new values, and sets the result as the new value of the "List Of Outstanding Items". When you insert the token into your email body, be sure to check "Apply Formatting", and type "HTML". This will make sure your token is interpreted correctly.

The "Workflow Loves HTML Tokens" Presales Place article describes this process in detail, complete with screenshots. I highly recommend taking a look at it.

The multi-value token actually worked.  While I did use HTML in the token, I didn't have to use it specifically to append to the existing values of the original token.  The option to Append to existing values is only present when the original activity/token is allowed to have multiple values.  Thank you!
