Volume ID Question

asked on April 14, 2014

We have a data recovery situation which is proving to be tricky, using a bunch of exported V7 volumes.  Normally this would not be an issue as all of the XML files are present.  However, the Volume.ID files all contain just the first line, [Required].

The Volume name and ID are missing.

The Volume ID = the LocalVolumeID, and the volume name is known, so is there a way to generate the correct LocalVolumeID, so that we edit the file to what it should be, and try to attach this?

Thanks!

I am not sure if this answers your question but this worked for me. Register your repository without the volume files existing. It will create a new .ID file in an empty volume directory. Now copy the 00 and e00 folders over to the empty volume directory

You can try this kb Bill: https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1011876 or simply copy the volume.id file from a working volume, open the file using a text editor and place the copy in the required location.

Thank you, Gentlemen -

It sounds like the Volume ID only has to be a unique ID within the database, and is not related to the name or path.  (In contrast to things like the StoreID)

We'll give that a try.
