Question

QuickFields Cannot See Network Share

asked on April 11, 2014

Hello again.........

Wow, I had such good fortune with my question about the SSL host name not matching…perhaps I will have success with this one also.

I have a Server2012 R2 VM named LaserficheQF….it will host Quickfields v9.0.0.441 and QuickFields Agent v9.0.

I am an Administrator on the VM and have access to a network share that I want to use as a test input area for a Universal Capture based QF session.  I can use the Windows explorer to view the test files but when I try to point QF to the share, it does not show up in the Browser window.

The QF Agent service logs on with a Windows userid and the Systems Group tried giving this userid rights to the share in question but it still does not show up in the Browser window for selection in QF.

What do I have to tell the Systems Group to do in order to fix this problem?...or perhaps I've missed something.......

Thanks in advance.

When you launch Quick Fields, Quick Fields can see the mapped drives the currently logged in Windows user has access to. So the Universal Capture dialog should show the same mapped drives you see in Windows Explorer. This scenario has nothing to do with QFAgent running or even being installed.

Quick Fields Agent runs as a service, so mapped drives are not available. Available network locations are from the perspective of the service user.

If what you're seeing doesn't match that, have your reseller open a case with Tech Support.

If you mean that you're trying to access a mapped drive (X:\Folder\Subfolder) in a session run by Quick Fields Agent, then that's not possible as services don't have access to mapped drives. You need to specify your network location as a UNC path (\\machineName\Folder\Subfolder).

Hi Miruna...

Thank you for your response.

Does that mean that QF by itself cannot see a mapped network drive? ....because, I stopped the QF Agent and tried to run the QF session manually.  The QF session is still not able to see the Mapped network drive even when QF Agent is stopped....so I'm guessing the UNC is required for QF  to access network shares.

I have searched through the QF web help....found Universal Capture and Retrieve Files ....I didn't see any mention of UNC paths.

I followed your advice and used the UNC path and was able to access one of the network shares.  yes....but not the other.....surprise .......I have rights to both folders...but the one that I cannot get into is

\ATS Managers\  ...will the blank in the folder name present a problem?  The error response is "The Universal Capture search directory does not exist". but I am using the same UNC path to view the folder in Windows Explorer....Doh!

I looked a little more and found reference to the QF Agent service requiring UNC vs Mapped in the white paper "Troubleshooting in Quick Fields 9"....but nothing about QuickFields itself.

Thanks again for your help...

.but the one that I cannot get into is \ATS Managers\

a UNC path requires 2 backslash at the beginning and a server name "\\Server\ATS Managers\"

Hi Bert....

Thanks for the reply....

I left the \\Server\ off for display in the forum....but I specify it when trying to access the network share........
