Question

No Default Volume set after upgrading to LF9

asked on April 9, 2014

After upgrading the Server and Client, found no default volume is set for anything.  We have over 200 users with many Volumes assigned for Departments that will need upgrading from 8.3 to 9.1.1.  Is there a way to KEEP the existing volume assignments?  I've had this happen previously on two small installs that had to be manually configured, but this next upgrade is massive and will be a major headache.  Thanks-

The issue turned out to be that the repository originally came from Laserfiche 7. Folders could not have a default volume set in that version. Starting in Laserfiche 8, you can set a default volume for a folder. Also, Laserfiche 8 was when user attributes first started being used. These are user settings that are stored in the database. That way the default volume that a user configured new documents to be created in will be remembered.

Are you referring to the default volume that's set on individual folders or the individual users' "Import to volume" setting that is set under Tools > Options > New Documents > General?

You can confirm if a folder's default volume is set properly by checking the vol_id column in the toc table for the specific row entry relating to the folder in question.

For a user's "Import to volume" setting, that's saved as an attribute and you can confirm if it's set properly prior to and after the upgrade by checking [Settings]ImportVolume.

Alex,  I'm referring to BOTH - folder volume assignment and the user's Import-to-volume setting.

These are being changed to "no default volume assigned", so any NEW documents can't be saved.

I understand about seeing an existing folder's volume, and am familiar with the ImportVolume attribute for the users.

Is there a way to keep the upgrade from changing the existing assignments for each User?

The upgrade shouldn't be wiping out any of those settings. We haven't heard of this being an issue before either. Open a support case and provide database backups of the original 8.3 database as well as the upgraded 9.1.1 database.
