DR-M140 Scanner Problem

I am currently using a Canon DR-M140 scanner.  Everything will work great one day and then the next I get error messages of double feeds where clearly it has not.  I double check for a piece of paper lodged in the scanner, ensure that it's clean and try again.  The only way I've found to clear the error is to uninstall and reinstall.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Have you tried setting the "double feed retry" procedure?  (Can be found in manual or below link)
