Can not connect to Laserfiche server through vpn

We are having a problem where users cannot connect to the Laserfiche server when connected through vpn.  We have verified that they have access to the server upon which Laserfiche is installed but when users try to connect to the client, admin console, or workflow desktop editions the applications cannot find the server by name.  We were just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Can the users connect using the server's IP address?
