Question

Testing/Running/Invoking a Workflow in 8.3

asked on April 2, 2014

 Hello Everyone.

I can't seem to figure out how to test a workflow that I'm writing on my test server. In version 9.X there a big green button that says Run. But in 8.3 I see nothing. I checked all of the drop down menu options and even right clicked on the Workflow.

What's the secret? :) How do I do it?

TIA

Rudy

The ability to run a workflow from the Designer is new in Workflow 9. Workflow 9 can work with older versions of the Laserfiche Server so perhaps just upgrading Workflow may be the best option for you. If you can't upgrade Workflow in your test server, then you would just need to create a starting rule and manually trigger the workflow by performing the required action on an actual document in Laserfiche.

That feature was implemented for 9.0, it is not available in 8.3. The good news is the upgrade from 8.3 to 9.1 is easy and does not require a migration.

If this is a scheduled workflow, you can manually start the workflow from the Workflow Administration Console.  If this is a condition based workflow, you'll need to do what they're saying above.

Thank you Shelby, that's good to know.

Thanks guys. The upgrade unfortunately is not in my hands, so I have to wait for the powers that be to make that decision. All I can do is make a recommendation. I'll try to play with starting rules then to get it kicked off.
