Question

Search for non-OCR pages, not documents containing non-OCR pages

asked on March 31, 2014

In Laserfiche 8.3, it is straight-forward to search for documents that contain all, some and no OCR'd pages through a page search. The repository that I manage has a large number of documents that contain "some" OCR'd documents.

A search for "some" will return documents that might only have a few pages that were not OCR'd. If you do a bulk OCR on the entire search results you will unnecessarily repeat the OCR'd process on pages already OCR'd.

How can you directly search for non-OCR'd pages?

When you perform your Generate Text on a document or group of documents, you are given a pop up menu.  Before clicking ok you can check the middle option that says "All image pages without text".  This replaces the "All Image Pages" option.  So, if you select a document that has "some" ocr'ed pages and you Generate Text on that document, it should skip the pages already done and just get the ones that have no text.
