Question

Export Quick Fields Classes

asked on March 28, 2014

Is there any way to export selected classes from a Quick Fields session? Think of a session with 100 or more classes. If a client wants to export 10 or 20 classes to another session, is there a way or work-around to accomplish this?

Document Classes are currently tied to the session, they cannot be exported separately. You can make a copy of the session and then delete the ones you don't want.

I understand that is not the ideal solution since you would have to delete 80+ document classes. You can turn off the deletion confirmation prompt and  set QF to auto-collapse document classes when the session is open through the Options dialog. That would at least make the deletion faster since you wouldn't have to dismiss the confirmation prompt each time you press Delete, and QF would automatically select the next document class for you.

There is no real easy way to do that aside from copy/pasting directly from the XML of the session. This is something we are addressing in Quick Fields 10 though.

A way I've been able to do this without going into the XML, (although not ideal) either, is by "copying" and "pasting" the document classes I need into a session. Unfortunately, you cannot select multiple document classes, so you need to copy each one at a time, save the session and repeat. If you're doing it for a few 2 or 3 classes, I think is faster than editing the XML. If you're doing something as massive as the 100 Classes, then the XML option Matt mentioned would be best.

Update:

You can accomplish this using the Quick Fields Server and Administration Console, available in Quick Fields 10.  See the help files for more information.
