Question

QF9 Optical Mark Recognition

asked on March 25, 2014

I was experimenting with the Quick Fields process for Optical Mark Recognition (version 9).  It doesn’t seem to work on the check boxes the document shown:

For more specifics I’m trying to set up a Classify session where each document class is determined by which EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION box in the middle is selected (I.E.: New Hire, Promotion, Rate Change, et cetera…) using it in the ID section of the session.  Each time I try to use and configure that process it gives me back a 0% recognition rate (it fails to note the box is checked or not).

Is this to be used in conjunction with Forms and won’t work on .tiff or non-editable PDFs?

Thanks much.

Yeah, OMR compares the scanned images to the master and basically ignores everything that's already on the master page.

Yes. The master form's checkbox needs to be blank. When OMR finds a checkbox with an X in it, it will know it's different from the master form, and therefore, must be checked.

OMR only works on images, it has nothing to do with Forms. If you look in the processing information pane, does it recognize your values as you scan images? Did you set it up as individual checkboxes or with a group?

Here's how I tried setting it up, with a zone over just the check box that indicates it's the start of this type of document class:

The output line:

And interestingly enough it did find a mark on a supporting page that shouldn't have been recognized as a new document:

I've also tried all the different settings for anchor points and clarity but they all come back with 0% recognition.  Glad to know this works for image pages, it looks like a really great feature if I can figure it out.

Does the master form have that zone with the X through it?

Yes, I used the document I'm testing as the master form.  I think I can see where you're going with this now!

Should the master form have a box without the check in it?
