Question

How can I clear the Security settings for multiple folders at once?

asked on March 20, 2014

 Hello all

I know I can high light and select access righst and assign rights to multiple folders at the same time.  But when I select multiple folder and check their access right, it does not show the user list.

My question is I have many folders that I need to clear their user access rights, how can I clear the user access right for multiple  folder at once?

Thanks

If this is a one time thing you're looking to do in preparation of starting over with a specific security plan, we have a utility on the solution exchange for this: http://www.laserfiche.com/SolutionExchange/Article/clear-entry-access-rights-from-an-entry. You can specify a specific folder and recurse from that.

Can I rest Multiple document or folders with this tool.  It seem it only takes a single ID?

I was able to clear the security settings by selecting group of folders and I adding all the user on the list, but I left the allow and deny options blank.   This removed all users from all folders' access rights properties.

Hi Farzali,

There are a couple of ways you can add this functionality, via script or workflow.

If you know what rights will be on the folder then you can write a simple business process to remove specific users and groups (first image).

If it's not possible to predict the users, then you'd have to remove each potential user or group individually (second image). I don't like this approach because even though it's code-free, it means lots a potential of lots of loops and lots of load on the server. I'd rather go the scripting route in this case.

Either way, once created as a business process you can just select the folder and then right-click Tasks-Business Processes and run the process on the folder.

Thanks for reply Ben

I am assignin security to Record Series and Transparent folder.  I am implementing seurity on multiple folder levels.  Simple "assign rights" workflow might not help me out.

Client has done many changes to the folder security users and I wnat to remove the security assignment for group of folder and strat assigning new user group.

All I want to know If can remove user groups from ultiple folders at once without visiting them one by one?

Without understanding the full scope of the security in play, I would use script to remove the all security then set a draconian model in place, and ensure only the workflow could file records under the file plan.

Ben, the workflow that you have ,I believe, resets the security for the user group itself which is also a very useful method.

But what I wanted to do is to drop the list of users from Access rights property of the group of folders.
