Question

Advance Audit Trail .tmp file directory size

asked on March 19, 2014

I noticed the .tmp files created by audit trail are using 800 GB of storage. The installation has been in place for 1 year. What are the best practices for managing these files. The SQL DB for AT is only 40 MB. How long do these temp files need to be retained ? Can they be archived then deleted ?

Thanks

Something is not right here, as these .tmp files should not be staying around for that long. I recommend opening a case with our Support team so they can investigate.

What .tmp files are you referring to? The only files I know of that Audit Trail creates are .log files.

Rather than write up how Audit Trail works, I'll send you to the documentation. There's a pretty good description of how audit data flows through the system.

EDIT: 800 GB? We've had Laserfiche for a little longer at about 3 years. I've never purged the Audit Logs but it's only 11 GB.

I have uploaded a screen shot of the audit directory contents for your review

Darcy, the .tmp files are generated when the audit logs roll over. They have nothing to do with the size of the audit DB. There should be more information in the Windows Application Event log. Like Ege said, you'll want to open a support case and attach the Windows event logs. Are there really 800GB worth of tmp files in that folder?

Yes the directory has grown to 800GB in size.

Can I delete the existing .tmp files ?

Could there be a permissions issue that is preventing the service from deleting the tmp files after the rollover occurs?

Updated file permissions to full control. Problem resolved. Thanks for the response.
