Can device licensing in Avante/RIO be used with Citrix Xenapp or is Named User licensing required?

Using a device license for Citrix would allow for multiple users to log into the repository using one license.  This would qualify as multiplexing and would be in violation of our license agreement.  You should be using Named User licenses in this case.

Rob,

Thanks for your response; that makes sense!

In regards to Citrix, would device licensing work for XenDesktop?  I know that with XenApp there is only one server that publishes the app, however with XenDesktop would you be able to assign a device license to each virtual desktop?  I wasn't sure what variable device licensing required in order to work.

I asked around about XenDesktop, but I wasn't able to find anyone who had direct experience working with it.  In general, you should keep in mind that the device license should be assigned to one machine, and that only one user can log on and use it at a time.  If you're considering a method that would allow for multiple users to use the license at the same time, that would be against the license agreement.

So if a device license is applied to each virtual desktop, and you can verify that only one user can access the virtual desktop at a time, it sounds like this method should work.

If you'd like more guidance or further clarification, just respond to this post and I'll see what else I can find for you!

Hi Rob,

we are discussing the same with one of our clients, so if the concept to support Citrix wither on desktop or server, citrix is used for application distribution where multiple users can access it remotely wither from Citrix or Microsoft or VM remote desktop in addition that LF modules are supporting Citrix, then in this case what is the logic behind using Citrix !!!

note that not all LF functionality will be running as its user licensed for example Forms participation, QF & WF functionality, where the end user would like to not break any agreement with regards to license, since they are Gov. Sector,

Appreciate LF answer this part so we can determine the requirements with client,

B.R.

Hisham
