Generate searchable text from PDF in Web Access 8.2

asked on March 14, 2014 Show version history

When we attempt to generate searchable text from PDF documents in Web Access 8.2 we get an error that "The document selected already has pages. Extracting text from the electronic file will overwrite these pages".

When we select OK no text is generated and the image is removed (and must be re-generated).

I recall that this may be a known issue in 8. Has it been resolved in 8 or 9?

Thank you.

PDF text generation in Web Access 8 requires the use of a PDF ifilter installed on the web server as well as the PDF file itself having a text layer. Make sure that you have a valid ifilter installed on web server (Adobe PDF ifilter v9 is recommended) and that the PDF you are trying to generate text for has a text layer, i.e. you can open the PDF in an application like Adobe Reader and perform a text search or highlight its text.

Have you tried generating pages from the PDF instead of text? Web Access 8.2 should have the native PDF generation capabilities - those don't require an iFilter. Look in the new document options, as well as generate text options.
