Question

Creating shortcuts with workflow

asked on March 11, 2014

Hi,

When creating shortcuts with either "Route Entry to Folder" or "Move Entry" activities, should I verify if the shortcut I am creating already exists or should I just let the workflow activity find the shortcut already exists, would the latter cause the workflow to Terminate?

Thanks,

JS

The 2 activities just create the shortcut, they don't check if another shortcut to the entry in question already exists in the target destination.

Would it be good practice to verify the existence of a shortcut to the same entry in the target destination or I can simply ignore this step?

Thanks,

Having 2 shortcuts to the same entry in the same place is not causing any problems, so it is more a matter of personal preference. Some users consider the shortcuts their To-Do list and don't like seeing duplicates.

Ok, I will test this out, so I assume from your answer that LF will treat shortcuts the same way it does for document entries and add (#) at the end.

Yes, all name conflicts are handled the same way, regardless of the entry type.

Is there a recommendation if you don't want the extra shortcuts created?

Was there a solution to this?  I have a workflow creating shortcuts but want a new shortcut to replace and old one... for renaming purposes...
