Question

Are there any plans to introduce an x64 based Laserfiche Client?

asked on March 10, 2014 Show version history

We are seeing more clients with x64 versions of Outlook and the current x86 version of the Laserfiche Client does not support communication with x64 based versions of Outlook. Are there any plans to introduce an x64 based Laserfiche Client?

We currently do not have any plans for a 64-bit desktop client, especially since a reasonable workaround to the incompatibility exists (using Save to Laserfiche instead of drag-and-drop).

Do you know why they are using x64 versions of Office programs? Most of the time they are unnecessary as they pretty much only allow you to work with larger file sizes and not much else (details here). They may also notice that Adobe Reader does not play well with their x64 versions as Reader only comes as a x86 program.

Clearly x64 instances are the minority, but there are a number of people who do work with larger datasets in Excel. As a result, many IT shops are installing it by default without regard for it's necessity.

Has there been any progress or plans to update this functionality?

We still have no plans for a x64 Client. The Office plug-in, however, does have a 64-bit version.

Can you gives more details about what your needs are?

I'm working with a customer that is having difficulty dragging and dropping emails into Laserfiche from Outlook. They are unsatisfied with the ribbon work around.

"It is frustrating and confusing to users that they can no longer simply drag and drop emails into Laserfiche. This is a large portion of their workflow which will only continue to increase as we migrate more and more data into the Laserfiche repository."

"I understand the limitation in so far as Laserfiche not recognizing 64-bit application, but this seems like a fairly ridiculous and antiquated incompatibility."
