Question

LF service fails to start error 183

asked on March 10, 2014

I am migrating to LF9 from LF 7.2.    LF7 failed this morning and the LF service fails to start.  Error message:  Could not start the Laserfiche Server 7.2.1 service on the local computer.  error 183: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I also get this error in the App event log

Event Type:        Error

Event Source:    LFS72

Event Category:                None

Event ID:              100

Date:                     3/10/2014

Time:                     7:02:28 AM

User:                     N/A

Computer:          TRS-DOCMGR-01

Description:

LaserFiche Server: Error number 183 - Engine load failure--Laserfiche failed to load.

I need this system to be up during the migration.

I did find a piece in the knowledge base:   The Laserfiche Server service may not start if it runs under the Local System account. You may receive error 183. Set the service to run under a named user account.

this did not solve my problem.

You previously had an evaluation copy of Laserfiche 7 that looks to have expired. I believe your VAR requested another evaluation which looks to have gone through our order processing. You'd just need to replace the expired Laserfiche 7 evaluation license with the new evaluation license that has the extended expiration date and then restart the Laserfiche Server service. You can download the new license from the Support Site or contact your VAR for further assistance.

*Edit*

Your VAR contacted support and confirmed that the license file currently on the system expired 3/6/2014. He's been given instructions on how to download the new evaluation license and replace the old license with the new one.
