Question

How do I password protect a zip file for email?

asked on February 28, 2014

I imported a zip file of multiple PDFs into Laserfiche. Now I want to email and password protect the zip file. When I right click on the zip file in Laserfiche, select email copy, the Password for Attached Files box is disabled.

How do I password protect a zip file for email?

Thanks,

Susan

What's the exact version of the Laserfiche Client being used? Check Tools > Options > Export > E-mail and under the Attachments section, make sure that "Combine attachments into one zip file" is selected. That should then allow you to specify a password.

We are in Laserfiche 9.0.2.685. The individual PDFs are not in Laserfiche. Just the zip file.

Right. The option is still needed though. Go to Tools > Options > Export > E-mail and under the Attachments section, make sure that "Combine attachments into one zip file" is selected.

Now when you select the zip file and email it, you should be able to set a password.

This is likely a limitation in the formatting of the file. Usually, you have the option to password protect most file types. I can only assume that since zip files are not something it can tell if it is already password protected or not, that it will not allow you to password protect the zip file.

Also, when I tested the functionality out with a PNG, it turned it into a pdf file in order to password protect the document. Since Laserfiche cannot convert the file to a PDF it cannot allow you to password protect it.

These are theories as I do not have much experience being on the receiving end of a protected file from Laserfiche.
