Question

Adobe Reader version for fillable PDFs

asked on February 26, 2014

I have a workflow that inserts a PDF into Laserfiche which will be filled with data and saved over time.  I've been told that this only works if you have Adobe Reader version 10.  Are there any plans to make this work with later version of Adobe Reader or is the customer stuck with version 10?  Thanks Sandy

The only restrictions you would run into would be restrictions that the PDF has. When it is stored in Laserfiche as a PDF, it is accessed by opening whatever PDF viewer has been set for the default PDF viewer on that machine. I know for a fact that you can open PDFs that were created with Acrobat 6 in Acrobat 11.

Workflow doesn't use Adobe Reader for PDF processing. Any version should be fine for viewing them. What context did you get that limitation in?

I want the end user to be able to add data to the PDF form stored in a Laserfiche folder and then be able to save changes.  I was told this would only work with Adobe Reader 10.  The form was created with Adobe Professional version 10 to allow the data to be added and saved.

Oh, I see. I read it as a Workflow question. Newer versions of Adobe Reader should work too for opening PDFs from the Client.

But will newer versions of Adobe Reader allow the end-user to add data to the form and save it?  As in this is a fillable PDF form and I want to be able to save the information entered into the form.  This is where I understand is the limitation of just version 10.
