On Laserfiche Forms, How do i change the variable name on a field?

 I'm just getting started using Laserfiche forms.  When I enter a new field into a form, I can enter the desired variable name.  However, if I try to change the variable name on an existing field, the variable name box is grayed out.  How can I change the variable name?

At the top of the fields pane on the left side, there is a Variables tab. If you switch to that tab, you can see the variables that are associated with that process. Mousing over one of them should reveal a gear icon, which you can click to change the variable name.
