Question

Outflow vs. Gateway

asked on February 20, 2014 Show version history

I have been going through the Forms Certification course and a question came up while watching the training videos. Considering you can create multiple outflow paths from a User Task, why would you not just use multiple Outflows instead of using a Gateway? When is it appropriate to use multiple Outflows as compared to using a Gateway?

Using multiple outflow paths instead of a gateway will default to the same behavior as an exclusive gateway. As a general rule, using gateways makes your process model more readable and easier to maintain. Of course, if your process logic requires an inclusive or parallel gateway, you cannot reproduce that behavior without using a gateway.
