Question

Search by Entry ID

asked on February 20, 2014 Show version history

"I have a situation". I'm trying to clean house because i had a user go crazy and do their work. The user scanned some 1000+ documents...all in true color. Such that she ate up some 250+gig of disk. Each image is some 15 or so megs each laid out across some 60+, 4-gig volumes. ouch!

So i have a process to manually shrink the images, but i need to test, but in the course of doing so i've discovered that i have to means to reverse search for some of those documents. I can go into LF and search for all documents on VolumeX, yet i can only discover documents within volume000030+. I can't locate anything on the initial 30 volumes. Yet they all contain 4gigs worth of images.

I have ran the Volume-Consistency-Checker (vcc) which reported no issues too? which surprised me...i was expecting to find volumes of orphaned images.

Again playing with the VCC i renamed a file, ran the checker and sure enough, it told me that something was a miss with the given image file. i took that information and went back to LF and did an advanced search {LF:ID=14632754}...hoping to be able to search on the entry ID/TOC id/page id but no luck, nothing found.

Blah blah blah...anyway sorry to ramble. Anyone have any thoughts or should i start drinking hemlock now?

Many thanks

Ron M.

It may be possible that these entries had previously been deleted and are in the recycle bin. Entries in the recycle bin would still exist in the volumes (until they are purged) but do not come up in search results. Do you have a very large recycle bin right now (you can see the full bin in the administration console - the client just has the ones you personally sent there).

I take it VolumeX is a rollover volume? And to get the obvious questions out of the way...do you have rights to the first 30 child volumes?

Why do you think you would have orphaned images?

Rollover Volume: yes Sheriff000001 thru Sheriff000063.

Access: I should. I'm the admin. But will confirm.

Orphaned: Because i did a couple  LF searches for all docs on the sheriff volume.

I found 1572 documents and folders within the Sheriff folder.

I found 1180 documents within the sheriff folder.

I found 1180 documents within the sheriff volume, of those, i sorted the results by volume (rollovername) and found one document on Sheriff000013 and the rest on Sheriff000032 and above. Basically nothing in the lower 31 volumes. Yet looking at the disk, there is some 4gigs of imagery in each of those physical rollover volumes.

But like you stated...if the security is fowled up, then i guess the search would fail too. Will look into that one.

thanks for the response.

i just did similar searches with LF accounts that should have Admin rights too. same search results. i just can't seem to locate any documents on those initial volumes 1 thru 31.

thanks for listening...
