Question

Can you drag and drop e-mails from Outlook in to Web Access?

asked on February 20, 2014

I know you can drag and drop to Web Access from files on your computer, so it made sense to me that you ought to be able to do this from Outlook. Is there any plan to add similar functionality?

Yes, drag/drop directly from outlook is supported in the current versions of the web Client.

Despite the fact that drag and drop from Outlook might seem similar to drag and drop from Windows File Explorer, it's different enough behind the scenes that dragging directly from Outlook to Web Access isn't really feasible. This is more a limitation of Outlook than of how Web Access was implemented.

Your options are either to use the Office Plugin to save the email and/or attachments from within Outlook, or drag the message/attachment to a Windows folder, then into Web Access.

Drag/Drop import in general was added to Web Access in version 9.

Has this changed at all with Web Client 10.2? We are trying to get away from the Windows Client. Many of our users drag and drop e-mails regularly from Outlook into Laserfiche. We have discovered we are not able to do this at least yet unless there are some settings we can tweak.

Thank You,

Zach Merrill

Thanks for confirming that Justin. I was testing this in Chrome and not having success with dragging and dropping e-mails. I tried in Internet and verified this works in IE. Is the drag and drop from Outlook supposed to work in Chrome and other browsers beside IE?

Hi Zach,

Drag and drop import from Outlook is supported in Chrome. It requires that the Office Integration and Chrome Extension are installed on the client machine.

If its working in IE, you must already have the Office Integration installed. To confirm you have the Chrome extension installed on the same machine

  1. Open chrome
  2. Go to settings button in the top right
  3. Go to More Tools->Extensions
  4. You should see an extension called Laserfiche Web Access Extension. Make sure it's in enabled and version 1.4.

Our Finance department uses Firefox as their default web browser because it's required for our accounting software. I tried looking for extensions for Firefox but I can't seem to find one called Laserfiche Web Access Extension. I've attached a screenshot and hyperlink to the resources I was looking at.

Any ideas on how to help our Finance department out? I think it would be a pain to try getting them to use IE or Chrome...

Hi Emily,

Apologies for the late reply. The extension is Firefox actually isn't deployed through the Mozilla store, it's served by the Web Client. If you try opening a Word, Excel, or Powerpoint document in the Web Client, you'll see this dialog:

You can then click 'Install Firefox extension'.

The xpi file is installed on the Web Client machine under C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\Web Files\Extension if you'd like to push the extension to your users in some automated fashion.

No worries, thanks for your reply!

I tried that but I didn't get that dialogue box... See below:

Any ideas?

Also, I started a new thread in hopes of better likelihood in getting a response. See below for a bit more info:
