Question

Laserfiche Scanning - Copy text in image to clipboard?

asked on February 19, 2014

One of our customers saw this in a scanning class at Empower.

The ability to highlight text in a scanned image and past it in text format into the metadata fields.

I have never seen anything like this, except maybe somewhere in Quick Fields where Zone OCR technology could be used.

Does anyone know of anything like this. Zone OCR to clipboard or direct to Fields through Laserfiche Scanning?

I think I know what you are referring to: in the Client, if you hold down ctrl then select an area of the image that has associated text and then click and drag over to a field, the text will be copied to the field. You can also ctrl, select, and then hit ctrl + c to copy the text to the clipboard.

It's important to note that this will only work if there is already text for the image: OCR is not being performed when you do this.

Thanks! That was what they were looking for.

This feature does exist in Quick Fields.

If there is text associated with the image already (ie it has been OCRed or was brought in with text from LFCE) you can as Brianna described above select an area on the image and copy the text from it, which you could paste in the fields.

If you don't want to have to hold ctrl to select an area, uncheck the option below in Quick Fields' options:

I have also found in Client that if you have imported the document as a PDF, you can highlight the text and drag it into a metadata field directly.

In Scanning, you can drag text from the text pane into fields, not from the image pane.
